Description: Weekly 1.5 hour rides at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph). Not likely to be very hilly. Please pre-book for this ride by contacting the ride leader. 1.5-2 hour ride at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph) NB: we have some troublesome road works and traffic lights on the A338 between Main Street Grove and Mably Way. Non-Grove based riders may wish to join us at the Mably Way/King Alfred Way roundabout (at approx 18.40) A fun ride out to Scutchamer Knob - an ancient meeting place and burial mound on the Ridgeway up above East Hendred. A few hills on this ride, but nothing too major. 17 miles / 27km
Riders: Adrian Herbert Angie Fisher Anke Otto David Jackson Des Higgs John Tranter Paul Kyberd Stephanie Haddrell Tim Waite Riders = 9 Weather: Report: A nice group formed for one of our traditional end of season Tuesday 2* rides - to conquer the hill up from East Hendred to Scutchamer Knob. It was particularly good to welcome Adrian on his first 2* ride. We had a slight struggle to negotiate the roadworks on the A338 for the Lidl supermarket entrance, but after that all was plain sailing on quiet lanes and tracks. Everyone managed the climb very well, particularly Adrian who romped up there excellently. The ancient burial ground / meeting place of Scutchamer Knob, aka Cwichelmeshlaew Hill, has had a lot off vegetation cleared away so we could see the outline of the barrow and also enjoy the views in all directions. We headed for home via the Lains Barn road (good to see a lot of surface patching has improved the surface there). Thanks to all for a great evening.
