Riders:Carin TranterJohn Leggott Lorna Swanton Patrick O'Leary Steve Swanton Tim Hoyle Riders = 6 Weather:Report:A lovely sunny morning to be out on the bike. 6 of us on today's 1*. We had to carefully negotiate the road works at the Denchworth Road and Barley Way junction on the way out and back again at the end. Otherwise we could enjoy the Denchworth Road almost traffic-free.We stopped briefly by the walnut tree in Denchworth and then by Chequers in Charney Bassett. Continuing on, we turned right into one of may favourite lanes in the vale, Sheephouse Lane with its overarching trees and gentle turns. This usually tranquil lane was rather busier than usual due to a diversion - Winter Lane towards Hanney was closed for resurfacing. We turned a bend to see a spectacle of red kites wheeling over roadkill just ahead of us. We stopped to watch - were there 9 or 10 birds? Then 3 more appeared as the first group peeled away. Amazing! The route via Fyfield Wick and through Kingston Bagpuize business park was new to several of the group and it was nice to surprise as we emerged into quiet Rectory Lane beside Kingston Bagpuize House. After a quick photo call, we continued on to Munch for our elevenses stop. Good value as ever and it was lovely to sit outside in the sunshine under the flowering cherry trees. The closure of Winter Lane called for a route change. So we returned to Charney Bassett, with the lovely long descent of Longworth Lane, then took a loop through Lyford for variety. Back in Grove before 1pm. Thanks everyone for your company on another enjoyable ride to lead. | ||
