Leader:John Stamp |
Start Time:10:00 am |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Please pre-book for this ride by contacting the ride leader. Easy sociable ride of 24-32 km (15-20 miles) at a pace of 14-17km/h (9-11 mph).Southmoor explorer: First leg is to Southmoor for coffee stop; via Kingside Estate, A338 to pick up the track to West Hanney, and then Winter Lane to Southmoor. After coffee explore the Bridle Way from Southmoor that runs parallel to Charney Road. Apparently last check 20 yrs ago! It starts as a metal road but we could end up in a field or be stopped by a closed gate! In which case we turn around and go to Charney the usual way. From Charney it’s back home via Denchworth. Aim to be back for 12.30. |

Report:Despite the encroaching black clouds and the odd spot of rain we essentially remained dry.The track (Bullcockspits Lane) leaving Southmore in a southerly direction proved to be worth exploring; very peaceful, no traffic and no traffic noise. Rideable apart from one section (100yards) which was extremely well rutted, probably by a tractor, and needed trans versing with great care. Would not be passible in wet weather. Trans versing with a bike with narrow road tyres not recommended. The last section from Newhouse Farm was an easy ride, a nicely laid compacted stone/gravel road. Thanks to Steve for providing navigational directions at several junctions. Average speed 5.5 miles/hr; long coffee stop at Munches! | ||
