Report:
A beautiful balmy day in the Oxfordshire countryside. Met with City and Witney groups for elevenses and set off together through paths and lanes that certainly the Wantage contingent had not been down before initially led by Kev Hickman, thank you it was great. Perfectly rideable lanes and byways that many would dismiss as off road certainly smoother than a few roads in Oxon and Berks I can mention. A small smooth grass section negotiated by a variety of bikes from a race bike a recumbent a fixie and trad tourers, hardest part of the ride? The gate I made a complete struggle of opening, to everyones amusement. Definitely a CTC ride today, elevenses, lunch and tea, but it didn't matter this was about good company and a lovely Autumn day. Rose hips, hawberrys and the late blackberrys adorned the hedgerows, the lass behind the bar at lunch brought out her new road bike to show us and we bemoaned the ferry's' demise at Bablock Hythe. Ginny came to meet us for tea, badgered the boy on the gate to let her in as she was only going to the tea shop and shouldn't have to pay to see the gardens and house. Not only did she get in gratis but the lad apologised to the rest of us when we arrived as he thought he might have upset her. Nobody got left behind and not a trouser press in sight. Thank you for your company today, it was for me idyllic. England, autumn and we even won the cricket.
