Regular Wantage Ride
Leader:
Jan McCabe
Start Time:
9:30 am
Start Location:
WMP
Description:
Monthly all-day touring ride, lunch and possibly tea stop en route, riding pace 18-22km/h (11-14mph). Not suitable for irregular riders. Climbing almost inevitable.

Ride will be shortish (but at 50 miles it is the longest your ride leader has done for a while!) but a bit hilly!
Plan is to warm up on chain hill, then cut across to the A338 for a short bit of main road to Shefford, and then wind our way via E.Garston and Ramsbury to lunch at Marlborough. After lunch we'll retrace our steps a short distance, then head for Aldbourne, then pass thro Baydon and Lambourn, over the hill, and back through the Letcombes to Wantage. http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=102210.

Report:
8 of us left Wantage market place, by the time I'd got part way up Chain Hill the numbers were reduced to 5! It had started raining as we'd ascended and Ginny, Tony and Richard decided they didn't fancy getting cold and wet. Unfortunately for them, but luckily for the rest of us, the rain only lasted about 10 minutes!
Our numbers increased again when Mavis and Rex joined us in East Garston, but unfortunately just after this Rex got the first of his 3 punctures and called for his sag wagon.
Rex rejoined us along with Teresa, Sue and Lou for lunch at The Bear (I hadn't been there for a few years, but they still do the same bacon and brie burger which I can highly recommend, the jackets, baguettes and pie others had also looked very good)
After lunch the sun came out and we enjoyed blues skies as we cycled up and down a few hills back home.
It was my first ride for a while with the group, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, and hope to become a more regular rider in the future!
Distance:
79.50 km (49.40 mi)
