A Little bit of Kent in Oxfordshire

Description: Joint ride organised by Oxford Section. 35 miles and will involve a picnic lunch at Rousham House (Small entrance fee). Option to meet 10:30, Harriet's Tea room, Woodstock (opp. Oxfordshire Museum) for 11s's.
Riders: Barbara Muritu Jane Bruffell Mary Weir (dec) Mavis Rose Pat Hurt Steve Bruffell Steve Swanton Sue King Riders = 8 Report: This was the first of our DA rides to places of historic or natural interest, one of the recommendations that came out of our DA members survey last year. Rousham Park meets both categories with landscaped pleasure gardens and house enlarged by William Kent (1685-174, who later went on to design Horse Guards Parade. The gardens, which run down to the river Cherwell, are one of the few of their era to have escaped alteration. Particularly interesting was the statuary, unusually still in place (and hence the exclusion of children and dogs). The herbaceous borders of the walled garden were highly colourful and the roses were at their peak. I decided to start the ride from Oxford and was surprised to see Steve and Jane appear in the nick of time as well. 12 of us set out from Broad Street and we followed the Woodstock road all the way to Woodstock using the cycle path from the A34 junction. Something of a contrast to cycling from Grove. Harriet
