CTC Oxfordshire Explorer Ride 2*
Leader:
Chris Walters
Start Time:
1:00 pm
Start Location:
Hungerford Town Hall
Description:
A cheeky little route of 62 km, lots of bailout opportunities and distinct climbs on the first half and undulations on the second part, stopping at the Crofton Pumping Station for tea after 40 km. 2* pace, 3* "scenery". 4 hours-ish of riding time, back to Hungerford by 18:00.

Start 13:00 at Hungerford Town Hall. Best free parking at Hungerford Station.

Windmills, steam engines, Leverton cottages, climbs, descents - all we'll need is the weather.

Please let Chris know by text if you intend to join the ride - it will be cancelled if there are no riders committed by 20:00 on 29th August.

Report:
A rather pleasant afternoon! As the ride was designated an Explorer ride, I thought the right thing to do was to use some new lanes and some old favourites to show off the area south of Hungerford. Some good climbs followed including the mean one at Rivar, and Conholt Hill.

The rewards of the Chute Causeway were short-lived as Jon's tyre exploded, whereupon the well-practised pit-stop routine swung into action with Des producing a spare tyre, Chris getting his hands dirty and Richard performing the quick CO2 inflation. Jon watched on, bemused.

Tea at the delightful Crofton Pumping Station was a delight, including seconds for a few people, and then we headed up towards Savernake Forest before swinging down into Froxfield and the up and over to Chilton Foliat, finally coming through the Denfords and across Hungerford Common.

Big thanks to Richard for sweeping the ride.
