Report:
What an epic day! Andy and Katherine had a disconnected alternator to deal with, so missed out on the day trip to Spain. We started off at the beach near St Nazaire, heading along the undulating coast road.

The initial flatlands across the lagoon soon turned to a series of quite lumpy undulations as we crossed the PyreneeS where they meet the Med. Coffee and crepes were taken in Collioure before further climbs towards Spain - Phil dealt with a visit from the Fairy with no fuss. The climbs were a nice steady gradient up to lunch, both uphill and on the sweeping descents.

A very good tapas and paella lunch followed just over the border in Portbou. True to form, there was a formidable climb back up the headland as we retraced our tracks back to France... The diversion inland proved to be "interesting" as we headed into a thunderstorm - up and up and up - long and at times pretty steep. Des pushed on through the pain barrier on a number of occasions - "the hardest ride I've ever done" was the verdict. The rewards of descending and seeing the rainbow over the Med made up for it.

All the pain was forgotten as we returned back to our beach resort, paddled in the sea and had an absolutely fantastic meal at which David's Steak Tartare was delivered and made very theatrically at the table. Top day!
