Wales Weekend
Leader:
John Talbot
Start Time:
9:00 am
Start Location:
New House Farm, Rhosgoch
Description:
A weekend trip to mid Wales to ride some classic passes and routes.

The base for the weekend will be New House Farm in Rhosgoch near Hay-on-Wye. This will give us easy access to the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Black Mountains. It is a working farm with livestock in a beautiful quiet valley. I have stayed there on a multitude of occasions with my astronomical club to take advantage of some of the darkest skies in the UK.

Two led rides will be arranged on the Saturday and Sunday, these will be long road rides and cross some tough terrain and will be suitable for fit and experienced riders only. But you are are welcome to still join us for the weekend and do some mountain biking, walking or sightseeing.

The farm has two B&B rooms for single or twin occupancy. They are en suite with TV and courtesy tray. They are £29.50 pppn based on two people sharing. Single occupancy is £39.50 pppn.

UPDATE: both rooms at the B&B are now taken. Alternative accommodation can be found in the surrounding area but note that Hay Festival will be in progress.

There is also a mobile home that would accommodate a few people.

The campsite is £4 pppn and has access to basic but functional facilities, i.e. toilets and hot showers. It can take tents and small motorhomes, e.g. VW Camper, only. No caravans.

The farm does excellent home cooked 3-course evening meals at £16.50 and for the campers a full breakfast at £7.

There is self catering accommodation just down the road at Lane Farm but please make your own arrangements if you wish to stay there.

The plan is to arrive on either Friday afternoon or evening (or early Saturday morning before the first ride leaves). Ride Saturday and Sunday and return Sunday evening. You are welcome to stay over on Sunday night and return Monday if you wish.

We can have group evening meals at the farm on the Friday (if you arrive in time!) and Saturday.

I will be firming up numbers for meals at the farm soon so if you know you will be joining us please let me know!
