Saturday afternoon ride from Grove	3*

Leader: John Tranter	Start Time: 1:00 pm	Start Location: OMH
Description: Monthly 60-70km (38-45 miles) afternoon ride, with a tea stop, riding pace of 20-24km/h (13-15mph). Likely to visit distant destinations. Not suitable for irregular riders. Climbing likely. I keep leading Oxford rides and we keep running out of time to climb the hill from Bayworth to Boars Hill. So, this ride gives the climb due attention. We ride over to Abingdon and then head to Sunningwell to do the climb. Once we descend again to Wootton, we head over to Appleton and Hinton Waldrist and then down to Stanford in the Vale for a shop stop. Then a gentle rode home. 37 miles, one big climb and a good pace throughout.

We kept a good pace along to Sunningwell and the great climb of Bayworth Hill was assisted by some lovely smooth new tarmac. Frankly, the climb didn't seem that bad after all the hype... A nice descent to Wootton and then a long stretch into the breeze back to Stanford in the Vale, where we got lucky as the wonderful Huddle cafe was just closing, but rapidly re-opened when they saw us arrive! Great coffee, tea and cakes. Thanks to all for a nice ride at a good pace.
