London Midweek Sightseer 3*
Leader:
John Talbot
Start Time:
9:30 am
Start Location:
Hampton Hill
Description:
Please note that although I am contact for this ride I haven't entered and it's unlikely I will be riding it this year. This is an un-led audax ride and you will need to make your own arrangements for following the route - John

Possibly the most exciting 100km audax you will ever do and definitely not the quickest.

See all the major sights and some fascinating lesser known parts of one of the world's great cities. Mainly using cycle routes, cycle paths and quiet roads this is the best possible way to see London.

A very clever route that takes in a lot of quiet paths, backstreets and parks to visit many of the major tourist sites in London from west to east and back again. There are some VERY busy sections of on-road though, notable through the city past St Pauls, Trafalgar Square, Aldwych and near Buckingham Palace. Don't enter if you're not prepared to mix it with the midweek London traffic!

It's not a quick route due to numerous traffic lights, junctions, paths etc. but you don't want it to be, this is a sightseer ride. You even get to fly at one point :)

It's also not conducive to keeping a big group together. Generally twos and threes form to help with the navigation and keep it friendly. Talking of navigation I highly recommend following the route sheet on this one, GPS devices struggle amongst the buildings and with the tricky turns.

As this is an audax event you will need to pre-enter beforehand. There is easy on-street parking near the start and allow yourself plenty of time to get there.

It was a wonderful ride, with temperatures reaching a July record of 36.7 degrees at Heathrow. We certainly saw at least 35 degrees Celsius where we were.
