Off-road Afternoon Ride	2*

Description: Mobile 07582483315 Car parking available at Bury Down or ride there. Twice monthly off-road ride for those who like their rides bumpy and (sometimes) muddy. These will be on the second Saturday afternoons and 4th Sunday mornings. The rides will be about 20 miles, mostly off-road, and aim to finish in time for a late lunch (whether together or heading for home). We adjust the ride to suit the riders and the weather, but in general the terrain will be rough, so a mountain-bike in good condition and with knobbly tyres is recommended. This is a chance to explore some of the trails on the old 45 mile Uptonogood ride only without the usual mud (fingers crossed!). Route heads down towards Aston Tirrold then sharp right back up past Lowbury Hill and out to the woodland trails around Aldworth. After returning to the Ridgeway we follow more familiar trails back through Compton and the Ilsleys. The route avoids the most overgrown paths but there are a couple of sections with low hanging twigs so eye protection is necessary - clear lenses highly recommended for the wooded parts! Riders: David Smith John Davies Nick Stokell Ursula Hallam Riders = 4 Weather: Report: Fine day, dry trails, what more could you ask for? Well, perhaps a little less rutted and overgrown in places, but that would be a bit pernickety. After an easy bash along the Ridgeway things got a little more exciting descending towards Aston Tirrold (lesson don't take the right hand rut on this one!) followed by the steady climb back up to the Ridgeway. Beautiful views Eastwards as we approached Bower Farm gave way to the lovely, shaded singletrack through to the Aldworth road. Everyone coped well with the most overgrown section from Roden Down towards Compton and the rutted climb up from East Ilsley, and the drinks at the Harrow were well-deserved. Thank you everyone for making it such an enjoyable lead.
