Northern France Trip	3*

Leader: Richard Pethybridge	Start Time: 8:15 pm	Start Location: Portsmouth
Description: Dates are confirmed as Friday 30 Sep to Sunday 2 Oct. We will catch the 20:15 ferry from Portsmouth overnight to St Malo. The return ferry is from Caen to Portsmouth, departing France at 16:30 local time and arriving in the UK at 21:15 UK time. Parking is available right next to the ferry port so we will be travelling with cycles only (sorry for stating the obvious!). The routes on the blog post have changed slightly to make them slightly shorter and with slightly less climbing. If you would like to join us then please just drop me a line. You will need to book your own ferry and the hotel as numbers currently do not look large enough for a group booking and most of those already signed up have made their own bookings. Booking the hotel (Hotel Saint-Pierre, Vire) via booking.com allows you to do so with free cancellation up to 48 hours before. More details.
Riders: David Bridge John Tranter Jon Townsin Karen Townsin Nicole Pethybridge Richard Pethybridge Riders = 6 Report: Not much riding on the Friday, just a few 100s of metres from Whale Island, home of the Royal Navy, to the ferry port. The interesting bit had happened before that, with an accident south bound on the M3 causing 4 mile tailbacks into Winchester on the A34. All of us were held up, but some judicious cross-country work via the A272 and a number of other roads meant we all linked up on time. Embarking on a ferry with a bike is always exciting, and this time was no exception. There were plenty of other bikes already onboard by the time we arrived, which was good as that guaranteed we would be first off in the morning. With flat calm seas and some excellent Brittany Ferries food inside us, sleep came quickly aided no doubt by the beverages we also consumed from retiring. The ferry did the work and France got ever closer...

Thanks for planning and organising such a great trip Richard. I really enjoyed it and would definitely do it again.
