3* Saturday Afternoon Ride	3*

Leader: Karen Townsin	Start Time: 1:00 pm	Start Location: OMH
Description: Monthly 60-70km (38-45 miles) afternoon ride, with a tea stop, riding pace of 20-24km/h (13-15mph). Likely to visit distant destinations. Not suitable for irregular riders. Climbing likely. A lumpy one this time exploring quiet lanes in Wiltshire and Berkshire. We head out via the Letcombes and Hackpen Hill, through Lambourn and Aldbourne to Ramsbury where we'll stop at Bella's for refreshments. Then it's back into the Lambourn valley, partially retracing the outward route before branching off for Seven Barrows and Kingston Lisle. Then it's the usual way home through Goosey and Denchworth. I shall be pacing myself up the hills so we will be pausing at the top of the climbs. In order to enjoy the route and appreciate the sceney, and given the amount of climbing, I shall be aiming at an average pace of 20-21kph for the ride, so lower end of 3* pace. 72km with 675m of climbing
Riders: Barry Stanton David Talboys Jenny Gower Jo Little John Groves John Tranter Karen Townsin Karl Blake Nicole Pethybridge Richard Pethybridge Roger Postbeschild Sharon Bedford Terry Penn Riders = 13 Weather: Report: I must admit to feeling a little trepidatious about the amount of climbing on this afternoon's ride, but when we got back to Grove we all agreed (admittedly there were only 3 of us by now, so hardly unanimous)that it wasn't as bad as we'd thought and that made us feel pretty good about the upcoming Blowingstone audax. Everyone managed the hills well, though the headwind on the way back took its toll. Bella's was well timed, coming after 4 of the 6 climbs had been ticked off, and whilst the weather was at its most pleasant. Meeting the Hendred posse on their bike touring weekend meant that the cafe was pretty overrun with cyclists which felt good too. Thanks everyone for an enjoyable and sociable afternoon. I do love our club.
