Regular Wantage Ride 2*
Leader:
Nicole Pethybridge
Start Time:
9:00 am
Start Location:
OMH
Description:
Monthly 80-100km (50-65 miles) all-day touring ride, lunch and possibly tea stop en route, at a riding pace of 18-22km/h (11-14mph). Not suitable for irregular riders. Climbing almost inevitable.

To replace the Touring Taster there will be an all day 2* touring ride. Expected to be 65 miles but taken at 2* pace this will stretch the legs in a relaxed fashion.

Only two 'hilly' sections one on the rise out to Highworth and Blundsden and then the final climb through Faringdon when we are almost home. In between we have some relatively flat or undulating sections.
Plan to stop at Highworth and South Cerney - Cotswold water park for coffee and lunch (for about an hour each time) and the option to stop in the afternoon if we wish.

This will be an all day ride but hopefully a pleasant one

Tea and Lunch stops included. Expect to return between 5 and 6 pm

Weather:
sunny intervals
Report:
12 riders congregated for the touring 2* all day ride. Despite a soaking all week the weather was very kind to us and whilst most had some sort of wind proof for a while we all remained dry and comfortable.

A steady pace was soon settled into as we made our way out of the vale and over to Highworth. Unfortunately the recently reconnoitred cafe in Highworth had chosen not to renew their lease and closed. A kindly local pointed us in the direction of the coop which also had a cafe. Once they had brought on a few more staff to deal with our sudden arrival it proved a very suitable stop.

On the move again we broke onto groups for the stretch over to Blunsden and then swooped down amongst the housing development of north Swindon.

Out onto the Cotswold water park the roads were lovely and new scenery for most, occasionally marred by some nutty drivers. However it was a pleasant route and we made it to the Water Park Cafe and managed to secure a large table and a very nice lunch.

After lunch the roads and almost non existent drivers were easy and we made excellent progress to Lechlade and Farringdon. Home with at least an hour to spare it had been a very enjoyable day with only 366 metres of climbing in 104 Km. :D (clap)
Distance:
104.00 km (64.62 mi)
