Tour of the Cotswolds 100km Audax

Description: Start from Spendlove car park, Charlbury. Entry fee
Riders: Des Higgs Heather Harwood Kevin Fairs Laurent Chambard Mary Weir (dec) Steve Swanton Riders = 6 Report: A superb but hilly route through the Cotswolds. Unfortunately, the early morning mist didn't really clear until the afternoon and some of the fine views around the north of the county were missed. The first stage was uphill most of the way to Sibford Gower, where Kevin & Catherine were manning the first control and supplying bananas, chocolate biscuits and squash. There were a few more ups and downs to the second control in a cafe at Chipping Norton, where I stopped for a well-earned coffee break. After a few flatish miles to Bledington, there started the long but relatively gentle climb to Stow on the Wold. Then the roller-coater really started through Swell, Naunton and Aylesworth. Control no. 3 was manned by Laurent in the Corner Green cafe in Northleach, an excellent venue for a well-deserved lunch. The next stretch towards Framlington was a bit dicey - sticky mud on a sharp down and then up. From then on the route continued along the Windrush and Evenlode Valleys back to Charlbury with widening views across the valleys. Tea, soup, rolls and cakes provided a most welcome end to a good day. Steve S.
