2* Saturday Half Day Ride	2*

Leader: John Tranter	Start Time: 9:30 am	Start Location: OMH
Description: Please pre-book for this ride by contacting the ride leader. Half day ride (45-55km / 30-40 miles), with a tea stop, at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph). A flat ride around the Vale, with cafe stop at the Cantorist in Childrey. Approx 30 miles / 50km
Riders: Barry Stanton David Jackson Des Higgs John Salmon John Tranter Mike Bailey Robert Mulhall Riders = 7 Weather: Report: It was great to welcome Robert to the ride - a member of Swindon CTC who liked the look of our ride which overlaps our patch with theirs. The ride got off to an unfortunate start when Des discovered a shoe cleat problem and had to abandon before we had left Grove. After that our biggest concern was the number of gathering storm clouds and the distant rumble of thunder, but we got lucky and stayed dry throughout. I decided to add in the back roads of Longworth and Hinton Waldrist, which were well received as always - in particular, John's geography background led to an appreciation of the abrupt edge between the Vale and the Thames Valley that we rode along, and Mike then showed us the house he had lived in in Hinton Waldrist a few decades ago (complete with his hand built wall). Generally all went well and we made good time to the always wonderful service at The Cantorist in Childrey. From there we headed back to Grove nice and easily. Thanks to all for a fun morning.
