Regular Sunday all day ride

Leader: Glen Savegar	Start Time: 9:30 am	Start Location: WMP
Description: Regular touring ride from Wantage of around 80-100km. This Months proposed route will head for lunch at Lechlade,taking in Letcombe Regis,Letcombe Bassett,Childrey,Sparsholt,Westcot,Kingston Lisle,Uffington,Woolstone,Watchfield,and Coleshill. Returning by way of Langford,Alvescot,Black Bourton,and Bampton,with the option of a tea stop at Aston pottery.Route will continue following the "Great Brook" and onto Tadpole Bridge,Buckland,Gainfield,Charney Bassett,Denchworth,West Challow,finishing at Wantage market place.
Riders: Amanda Seddon Dean Douglas Derek Boutle Des Higgs Glen Savegar Maurice Bawden Nick Dunton Robert Shaw Riders = 8 Report: Sunday brought a gloriously sunny if chilly morning.We said farewell to King Alfreds statue and headed out of town,settling into a nice steady pace whilst navigating our way through both Letcombes,Regis and Bassett. Derek provided the first mechanical malfunction of the day,when his chain link decided to abandon ship on the descent from Kingston Lisle.Half an hour or so later assisted by the chain link extraction tool,we were up and running(riding?)again.Crossing the inevitable/unavoidable A420 at Shrivenham,we headed uphill passing the very impressive wind turbine farm at close quarters,(They are really quite huge!),before the steepest ascent of the day to Coleshill. Gathering breath at the summit,all that remained pre-lunch was a gentle short journey on empty roads to the "Black cat tearooms" at Lechlade.Service was excellent and swift,with a nice varied menu offering everything from full lunches and jacket potatoes,to cream teas and homemade cakes.Thoroughly recommended for a lunch or coffee stop ! Post lunch our journey headed off from Lechlade in a north easterly direction,fairly unfamiliar territory to this leader and requiring a bit of extra concentration on my "err" rather creaky map reading skills! No problems though,and once again the reward was quiet roads and lovely golden stoned villages. Passing through Langford village,Des became the final contestant of the day to demonstrate his bike mending skills,following a surprise visit by the "bicycle puncture pixies" to the rear tyre of his very nice new carbon fibre framed bike.Still,it was a lovely day,and great to be outdoors soaking up the very welcome spring sunshine. Being in no particular hurry and after saying goodbye to Derek at Aston,a tea stop at the recently re-furbished pottery seemed like a very good idea.It was nice to see Edith and Brian arrive at the cafe for refreshments,out on their bikes for an afternoon ride. The final leg home saw the group gradually disperse on route to their respective destinations,whilst Robert and myself completed the final few miles back to Wantage and King Alfreds statue !..........
